Western Window Systems products played a key role in a custom home that won a coveted Gold Nugget award last month in San Francisco at the annual Pacific Coast Builders Conference, the largest homebuilding trade show in the West Coast region.

Pardee Homes’ Contemporary Farmhouse, part of the homebuilder’s “Responsive Home” project at the Inspirada master-planned community in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson, took home the prize for Best Custom Home Under 4,000 Square Feet.

Designed by Newport Beach, California architect firm Bassenian Lagoni, the 2,145-square-foot Contemporary Farmhouse was designed and built with the Millennial generation in mind.

“Seamless indoor-outdoor living was key for this buyer group,” says Hans Anderle, vice president and senior designer at Bassenian Lagoni. “Expanding spaces visually and with door systems that open to create larger living spaces for entertaining helps meet the dual desires of this buyer segment.”

Western Window Systems worked with Bassenian Lagoni and Pardee Homes, a member of TRI Pointe Group, on the concept. The Contemporary Farmhouse features the company’s Series 9500 Bi-Fold Door. Western Window Systems was also a key sponsor of the project.

The Contemporary Farmhouse model, which lists in the low $300,000s, has the option of three or four bedrooms and 3.5 or 4.5 bathrooms plus an optional 384-square-foot apartment over the garage. In keeping with the Millennial generation’s desire for sustainable living, the home includes solar panels, LED lighting, an electric car charger and roof sensors that detect rain and communicate to an irrigation system to conserve water. The Gold Nugget judges had this to say about the home: “The flexible floorplan that allows owners to imagine their own spaces and make them unlike their neighbor’s is key . . . And the true blurring of the lines between outdoors and indoors means that this modestly sized home feels grand.”

The home debuted to rave reviews in January 2016 during the annual International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.

Sponsored by Builder magazine, the Gold Nugget awards have been presented for 53 years to those who “improve our communities through exceptional concepts in design, planning, and development.” This year’s panel of judges included members of the West Coast region’s leading homebuilders and architectural firms, as well as the design editor of Builder magazine.
