Western Window Systems was featured recently in an article in Builder magazine about the company’s collaboration with Scottsdale-based Meritage Homes to create the reNEWable Living Home in Florida, which will focus on sustainability and comfort. The concept home is scheduled to debut in early 2018 at the International Builders’ Show in Orlando.

The story, which appeared on Builder’s website on April 19, describes how Western Window Systems’ Series 7600 90-Degree Pocketing Multi-Slide Door helped overcome structural engineering challenges that arose when architects at Scottsdale-based BSB Design wanted two cantilevered beams to meet without a traditional concrete block post at the 90-degree point.

When opened, the pocketing multi-sliders will dramatically improve the interior flow and greatly increase the indoor and outdoor living spaces by creating a seamless transition from the great room to the covered outdoor space.

Erick Felsch, Western Window Systems Volume Program national accounts manager, points out in the article that the height of the doors was actually increased from the more conventional height of eight feet to 9 feet, 6 inches. This only served to create a more dramatic opening for the 18-foot span.
