[Phoenix] – March 23, 2016 – Western Window Systems today announced it’s providing the moving glass walls and windows for writer James Sturz’s Hawaiian dream home. Sturz, who grew up in New York City, has written essays for The Wall Street Journal, Outside, and National Geographic Adventure. He’s also author of the novel Sasso, and contributed to Italy: The Best Travel Writing from The New York Times.

Located in North Kohala, an area in the northwest portion of the island of Hawaiʻi known for its sweeping ocean views, Sturz’s 3,517-square-foot home will consist of three pavilions connected by pathways on 39 acres of land. Project contributors include Big Island-based architect Paul M. Donoho and contractor Lyle Hooley of Lloyds of the Pacific. Western Window Systems will outfit the home’s three separate structures with massive multi-slide doors, hinged entry doors and windows, and a trapezoid-shaped window wall. All products will feature a bronze anodized finish and a special stainless steel hardware package designed for coastal homes.

Through ongoing posts in The Daily Catch, the blog of Coastal Living magazine, readers can follow Sturz’s journey of building a Hawaiian dream house in the writer’s own words. Supported by photos and videos, the posts, which began last October and will run for a year, include participating in a Hawaiian land blessing ceremony, protecting native birds, and the experiences of building a “completely off-the-grid house, powered by solar panels and a wind turbine, with a buried 13,300-gallon catchment tank for collecting rainwater.”

“People are going to love how this story comes to life,” says Andrew Darr, vice president of custom sales for Western Window Systems. “Sturz’s blog series is perfect for dreamers, discoverers, and anyone who’s ever thought about doing something big and a little crazy – like building a home. We’re thrilled to be part of the experience.”
