Darren Yazzie
Darren Yazzie is a man in high demand.
When he’s done with his shift in the shop’s shipping department, other lines in production ask for his help.
“Darren’s always in demand,” says assistant production manager Mike “Hollywood” Flores, “because he can do most anything on the line — glazing, building — it doesn’t matter. I get people from the windows team asking, ‘Hey, what time is shipping going to be done? Can we take this guy now?’ I have to fend them off every day because he’s that valuable to other departments.”
Yazzie started working for Western Window Systems in the shipping department in October 2018, and within a few months, he demonstrated his skills in every aspect of that job, from loading containers to locating products. “I’ve worked side by side with this guy and I can’t keep up with him,” Flores says. “I know that at the end of that shift, everything he’s done is done right.”
Flores cites Yazzie’s ability to adapt to change as one of his strengths. “Darren’s seen a lot of changes in shipping,” Flores says, “and he just rolls with it. He knows we move and adjust, and he just makes things happen.”
Yazzie’s ability to assist different departments led to him becoming one of the newest members this summer of the shop’s SWAT (Special Western Action Team), which provides support for all positions in the shop. “When he’s finished in shipping, you can usually find him helping another line on production. It doesn’t take much to convince him to stay,” Flores says. “Darren is somebody you can count on when it comes to excellence.”
